Past Simple / Simple Past Tense



The main structure of Simple Past Tense is using the past form of verb (V2)

Past Simple/Simple Past Tense used to say something that happened in the past.
Verbal sentence uses past form of a sverb (V2):
-     I came to Andrew’s party last night
-     Kevin went to Canada last month
-     You did your job well
-     Sarah and I attended the monthly meeting with the manager yesterday
-     They had tuna sandwich for breakfast this morning
      * Last night, last year, yesterday, this morning, two days ago etc. adalah kata keterangan waktu lampau (past)
           
nonverbal sentence uses past form of be (Was/Were):
-     The students were happy because the teacher was late
-     I was the last person who submitted the report My bag was on the table but it has gone now
-     We were so tired

The past form of regular verb is V1 + ed, while for irregular verb the form is changing

To make negatif and interrogative sentence we use did + infinitive for verbal sentence and use be (was/were) for nonverbal sentence:
   Did you attend Sarah’s birthday party last night?
-     We went to Sarah’s party but we didn’t enjoy the party
-     What did you do to your hair? It looks worse
      * Attend in the first sentence, Enjoy in the second sentence and Do in the third sentence are infinitive
      *  an Infinitive is a base form of a verb (the verb doesn't have any suffixes and doesn't change in any form)

Other examples:
-     I regret going to the party. The food wasn’t good
-     My parents were not happy with the result of my exam
-     Were you busy last night? You didn’t answer my call
-     How was the movieWas it exciting?
